چکیده

Objectives – After lab you will be able to • describe the relationship between food availability and single-species population density (carrying capacity) • explain how competition influences the carrying capacity of individual species where they cooccur and compete • explain why predation is important for maintaining species diversity • realize the difficulty of predicting ecological outcomes and the importance of mathematical modeling in these fields of biology

Assessment of the local communities’ knowledge on mangrove ecology

The Kuala Selangor mangrove forest are facing massive reclamation for economic development but the conservation aspect and fisheries values of mangroves have been ignored in the decision-making process. The local community support and awareness of the mangrove forest conservation are still doubtful. The aim of the study is to analyse the local community perception on the mangrove forest conserv...

Fractal Population Ecology Theory

Abstract Purpose - The aim of this paper is to describe the population ecology theory through fractal thinking, an emergent human operating system that is creative, adaptive, healthy, and evolutionary; furthermore, a parallel is drawn between the population ecology model and the fractal structure. Top-down hierarchies are typically characterized by command and control systems of the authority t...

Qualitative Reasoning about Population and Community Ecology

based on mathematical equations, are hampered by the qualitative nature of ecological knowledge. In this article, we demonstrate that qualitative reasoning provides alternative and productive ways for ecologists to develop, organize, and implement models. We present a qualitative theory of population dynamics and use this theory to capture and simulate commonsense theories about population and ...

Spatial neutral dynamics

Neutral models, in which individual agents with equal fitness undergo a birth-death-mutation process, are very popular in population genetics and community ecology. Usually these models are applied to populations and communities with spatial structure, but the analytic results presented so far are limited to well-mixed or mainland-island scenarios. Here we present a new technique, based on inte...
